When the domain-level security setting to encrypt sensitive data is enabled, NetBrain masks passwords and other sensitive fields in configuration backups retrieved through Benchmark. While this protects sensitive data from general view, it currently leaves no supported process for obtaining the original, unmasked configuration file needed to restore a device to a prior working state. This enhancement proposes a controlled mechanism, such as a permission-gated export or administrative action, that allows authorized users to retrieve the unmasked version of a stored configuration backup for restoration purposes. This would give customers a reliable way to recover devices using previously captured configurations while maintaining the security benefits of masked data during normal viewing and reporting.
