On the maps, the devices are shown with host name, IP and device type but device type is not very informative e.g. “Cisco IOS Switch”. It would be much better to show the model like “C9500-40X”.

By default hostname, IP address and device type will be displayed in map, if you can double click the device we can find more details of the device in properties.

Yes Sir, I know about that but that is not what I require. I would like to see the model information  of ALL devices to see what the landscape is made up of. Double-clicking on 50 devices is not really what I would like to do.

Hello Carsten,

The information that is being show under the devices is because of the default data view template that is applied when we load the device into the work area.

To view the device model for each device you can create a Data View Template with adding desired variables (device level variables and interface variables) as required. Then apply the data view templated to the devices in the work area to show the selected variables for each device.

Below are the steps you can use to achieve the requested usecase.

  1. Go to Data View Template Manager.
  2. To create a Data view template, select the drop down list option and then select the option “Add Built-in Data”.
  3. Select the Model variable form Device Property section.

  4. In similar way, select Mgmt IP and Device Type.

  5. Now go to the Qualification section, select Device Main Type matches to any device and then save the data view template.

  6. Now open a map and then apply the Data View Template that is just created.

  7. Output:

Hope this is helpful. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks,

Pradeep

Hello Pradeep,

thank you for the data view solution. Of course this will work but I was thinking more in the way of having the default setting changed to make the model visible when you drop a device on the map without having to execute a data view every time.

Hello Carsten,

At this moment we don’t have it as a feature. It seems some other engineers also have asked about this feature. Thankyou for bringing this. This feature request is already in the queue, it may be added in upcoming versions.

Regards,

Pradeep
