Hello!

I’ve taken a look at the NetBrain online help and it doesn’t appear as though you guys document how to delete devices from the domain?   How do I do this?  Can this be added to the product documentation?

Hopefully someone out there can give me an answer...

Hey Richard -

I just checked and you’re totally right…We don’t document how to delete devices.  I’ll be sure to raise that to our technical writing team.  In the meantime, I’ve got some steps here that may help you.

I posted this over on our NetBrain Customer Success Center Knowledge Base as well:

You may want to look there for some helpful tips as well.  Let me know how it works out for you!

Delete Devices from the Domain

Multiple options are available to a NetBrain administrator to manually delete devices from their NetBrain domain.  NetBrain provides no automatic mechanism to remove devices as they are decommissioned from your network.  NetBrain highly recommends that device deletion in the NetBrain platform should be completed as part of your standard device decommissioning process.

In This Article

  • NetBrain User Account Pre-Requisites
  • Delete Devices from the Site Pane
  • Delete Devices Using Device Group
  • Delete Devices from Domain Management (Fine Tune)
  • Delete Devices from Domain Management (Tune Live Access)
  • Manually Execute a System Benchmark

CAUTION: All delete operations are permanent and cannot be undone once initiated.  All historical information associated with the device will be deleted from NetBrain’s database as well.

Just to bring a little automation into the game:

You can use the Delete Devices API to delete devices directly from a domain.

For me, this would a bit dangerous though, I prefer to implement a step for a manual check in between.
Create a list of dismantled/removed devices (hostnames) from your asset management or CMDB. Create a dedicated Device Group as described above and use the Add Devices To Group API (https://github.com/NetBrainAPI/NetBrain-REST-API-V8.01/blob/master/REST%20APIs%20Documentation/Device%20Group%20Management/Add%20Devices%20to%20Group.md) to fill the group. Check the contents of the group before right-clicking to Remove from Domain. Or map the devices and do some reachability tests before removing.
